Stunts like this are fun. But as I get old, I’m having less and less faith in humanity on two wheels co-existing with humanity on four — bicyclists often can’t get off their high horse and drivers only see from the perspective of a windshield. I think instead we need more highly visible bicycle-specific facilities on the local transportation system, more so than share-the-road stuff and often at the perceived expense of car space and driver convenience.
Another good idea is more road diets, such as the conversion of the formerly four-lane Lawyer’s Road into two lanes with a third lane in the middle for turning and TWO bike lanes. Dr. Gridlock has explained how this improves congestion patterns and more importantly safety, plus now there are bike lanes that aren’t in the door-zone of parked cars and local residents enjoy the privilege of getting in and out without having to risk their lives, uh, turning.
