The big story in Naw’thun Virginny was that the polls were brisk and without queue — bored poll workers and idling media outnumbering and overwhelming the trickle of “last-day” voters. Unprecedented voter turnout apparently happened before Tuesday or at least had waned by 9 am business hours — the longest reported lines were 3 hours last Saturday at the absentee in-person polling place at Courthouse. Early birds got the long line.An ecstatic precinct captain I talked to in south Arlington calculated the voter turnout at poll closing (not counting mail-ins) and the number was 80%. That’s only one precinct, but that’s really high.
I read over many of the individual Arlington precinct’s tally reports last night, and they all largely favored the Democratic ticket (federal, state, and county). They also overwhelmingly went yes on all ballot issues (bonds) except the housing authority reactivation.
